Corona, CA (March 4th, 2010) – Last year was the “General” Brian Deegan’s year of domination taking home the Unlimited Lites Off Road Championship. Proving that Off-Road Racing isn’t just another hobby, Deegan’s back again this year to kick off the season with a new and improved race team and the same winning attitude at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway for Rounds 1 & 2 of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. This time he’s no longer considered the “Rookie”, Deegan will be competing against some of the top off-road competitors in the sport to defend his championship and claim another off-road victory.

Brian Deegan began his short course off road journey back in April of 2008. Since debuting in 2009 as Owner/Driver of his race team, Deegan has learned a lot about the sport spending his off weekends practicing and getting underneath the hood to get an edge over the competition. Here’s what Deegan had to say going into this weekends inaugural race.

“I’m excited to get back behind the wheel of my Unlimited Lites Truck and battle against the competition in the Lucas Oil Off Road Series. My goal is to win each race and have a dominating race team. Also, stoked to have “twitch” under the tent and looking forward to taking over the sport Metal Mulisha style”

Joining Deegan underneath the Rockstar/Metal Mulisha/Lucas Oil/Maxxis Tires tent this year competing in the Super Lites class will be long time friend and FMX rider Jeremy “Twitch” Stenberg . Also competing alongside Deegan in the Unlimited Lites class for the 2nd year in a row will be teammate Todd Cuffaro of Cuffaro Motorsports. Last but certainly not least competing in the Junior Kart 1 class will be none other than Brian’s daughter Hailie “Dirt Princess” Deegan. Hailie made her first off road appearance in Perris, CA last August and took home 1st place! It must be in the blood of a Deegan to continually dominate the competition. This year should prove to be another exciting year for Rockstar/Metal Mulisha/Lucas Oil/Maxxis Tires race team and the Deegan family.

Brian Deegan Competes in the Rockstar Energy/Lucas Oil Challenge Cup

Corona, Ca – Brian Deegan competed last weekend in the Rockstar Energy/Lucas Oil Challenge Cup in his hometown of Lake Elsinore, Ca. The weather turned out to be the best all season, drawing a large crowd to the Lake Elsinore Motorsports Complex for the much-anticipated race of the year. A prize purse totaling over $180,000 was on the line, the biggest prize purse in Off-Road history.

On Saturday’s main event the grid was stacked with 13 Unlimited Lites against 13 Unlimited Buggies in a classic “Shootout” format for an all out battle to see who would claim the Rockstar Energy/Lucas Oil Challenge Cup! At the start of the race Deegan’s teammate Todd Cuffaro took the early lead, but after only two laps had to pull off the track. Battling his way through the pack from 6th place, Deegan joined the season’s top competitors Rob Naugton and Chris Brandt. Parker Grabowski an Unlimited Lites driver had a rollover causing a full course caution to be issued.

On the restart despite having complications with his truck, Deegan managed to pull ahead of Naughton taking over second position just inches behind Chris Brandt. On the mandatory competition yellow the top 3 spots were Chris Brandt, Brian Deegan and Rob Naughton. At the drop of the green flag, Deegan quickly moved past Brandt and took the lead. Shortly after claiming the first position Deegan had to pull off the track due to complications.

“I came from 6th battling a stalling truck and dirt in the carburetor. After passing Naughton for 2nd the full course caution came out and on the restart I cut in and passed Brandt for the lead. Not long after I took the lead my shifter stuck in 3rd gear and the money slipped from my hand.”

Although at first a disappointment, Deegan still walks away as the Lucas Oil Off Road Unlimited Lites Champion for 2009! After an incredible 2009 race season, Deegan is looking forward to competing next year to defend his championship against the competition. This year proved to be an exciting season for the Rockstar/Metal Mulisha/Lucas Oil race team, locking down an impressive 12 podiums in 12 races!

Corona, Ca (November 16th) – It takes Hard work, Determination and Heart to win a championship, three things, which Brian Deegan displayed this year at the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series. Last weekend was the final stop of the series and proved to be one of the most exciting race weekends of the season. The much-anticipated event took place back where it began in Primm, NV. Apparently what happens in Nevada doesn’t stay in Nevada. In April, the series launched its first event at the Primm Valley Motorsports Complex in Primm, NV. Deegan a rookie at the time was determined to prove that he had what it took to win a championship in a sport that was dominated by racers with years of experience in Short Course Off Road Racing. After battling through the weekend, Deegan ended up walking away with a 3rd place finish and a realization that with a little hard work, he could beat the top competitors in the sport.

“The first race was an eye opener when I realized that I have a shot at battling for the number one spot in the series. I knew it was going to be an exciting year!”

Deegan continued to dominate through the series, weekend after weekend, month after month. One of the most exciting and emotional times for Deegan came to fruition in his hometown of Lake Elsinore, Ca.

“Elsinore was my first taste of blood. Leaving that race I knew what I needed to do to continue winning through the rest of the series. Out of all my career accomplishments that win was in my Top 5. Compared to my first Supercross win and landing the first 360 on a dirt bike it was definitely an emotional moment”

Throughout the season Deegan had his share of domination and defeat, but through it all he remained focused on winning a championship. Deriving from his early beginnings as a Freestyle Motocross Rider, Deegan pushed himself to the limits and lived life on the edge, but as with everything it came at a heavy price. After almost dying three separate times, Deegan knows firsthand what it’s like to battle the toughest of battles. Coming into Primm, NV for the final stop of the series Deegan had managed to battle his way to 2ndin points, 9 points behind the leader Chris Brandt. This was it, either put it all on the line and walk away a champion, or get left in the dust and settle for a 2nd place finish. Deegan a racer at heart wasn’t going to settle for anything short of a championship.

Saturday’s Unlimited Lites main event proved to be an exciting one for both the fans and Brian Deegan. Pulling out all the stops, Deegan fought to the end and took 1st place putting him just inches away from the championship. With only 6 points separating Deegan from the leader Chris Brandt, both drivers could taste victory. Sunday’s race seemed at first a disappointment to Deegan locking down a 2nd place finish which would’ve put him 2nd in points behind Chris Brandt, but later turned out to be the sweet taste of victory. When all was through and the dust had settled, the top 3 trucks were impounded for a mandatory tech inspection. The results came back and the tech officials determined that due to an illegal truck modification of an elongated wheel base, Chris Brandt’s truck was disqualified from the race, giving Brian Deegan enough points to win the Unlimited Lites Championship of the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series!

“I would’ve liked to win the championship by battling it out on the track. I came to race a professional series that followed the rules they put in place and I think the officials and Lucas Oil made a statement this weekend. In the end I’m stoked to win the championship. For me this win wasn’t about this moment, it was about every race this year; the team, friends, family and everyone who helped me win the championship. In the end, it feels good win the championship!”
